Straight from Caucaia to the world, Ceará-born athlete Jonathan Benvindo has been confirmed as one of the Brazilian representatives in the South American Karate Championship, which will take place from April 22nd to 28th in Bolivia. Now almost 17 years old, the athlete, sponsored by the Instituto Aço Cearense, has been practicing karate since he was seven.
Last week, Jonathan was in Brasília participating in the national tryouts, securing a spot on the Brazilian national team and in the South American Championship. While in Brasília, he also competed for qualification to the Brazilian Championship final, where he placed first, securing a spot to represent Ceará in October in Rio Grande do Sul.
Jonathan has already won over 200 medals in state, national, and international championships and is a member of the Brazilian National Karate Team in the Junior 55k category for the third time. For his mother, Valéria Benvindo, all the hard work is paying off. "Jonathan has been training since he was a child and is now reaping the rewards. Thank God we have the support of the Instituto Aço Cearense to help make this effort a reality, as the institution is his sole sponsor, and without their support, none of this would be possible," his mother proudly says.
