Aço Cearense Group carries out environmental preservation actions

Grupo Aço Cearense realiza ações de preservação do meio ambiente

In 1972, the United Nations (UN) declared June 5th World Environment Day to raise awareness of environmental issues and the importance of preserving natural resources. With a sustainable vision, the Aço Cearense Group is committed to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
The Group is the largest steel scrap recycler in the Brazilian Northeast and works from a Circular Economy perspective. At SINOBRAS, steel production is made from 70% of scrap and 30% of liquid pig iron. SINOBRAS Florestal, another Group company located in São Bento do Tocantins, Tocantins, is a supplier of bioenergy reducers, with 15 eucalyptus farms across 25,000 hectares.

The Aço Cearense Group also has other projects and actions aimed at preserving the environment, such as:
Waste management – in its companies, the Group applies methodologies with the aim of improving performance and monitoring the disposal and reduction of waste and by-products generated, applying the concepts of reduction, reuse and recycling.
Reverse logistics is another environmental preservation practice carried out at GAC, applied to batteries and tires, which receive the correct disposal after use.

Concern for water use has been present since the beginning of operations in its companies, through a robust system of collection, treatment, recirculation, water cooling towers and decantation tanks, which guarantee the recirculation of water used in industrial processes. In 2018, the mark of 98.35% of water recirculated in the processes was reached.
Also last year, the Reciclo Project was implemented at ACI and ACC, with the aim of consolidating selective collection at Grupo Aço Cearense, which includes activities such as waste characterization, area adaptation, employee training, results monitoring and internal audits, in addition to donations of tree seedlings to employees.

"We need to reflect on how we act daily, on how our habits can affect the environment. Responsibility for environmental conservation and protection is everyone's responsibility" – Junimara Chaves, Environmental Management Coordinator at SINOBRAS.

"We can transform the world if we preserve the environment. At Aço Cearense, we do this every day, starting with educating all our employees to practice this action that is so important for the world we live in." – Carlos Yves, Sustainability Manager at Aço Cearense.
