Obstacle for many companies, and also people, in Brazil, bureaucracy is being targeted by an Endeavor campaign, with the support of Grupo Aço CearenseThe movement's goal is to pressure more than 500 government officials—from the president to mayors, governors, and representatives—to accelerate projects to simplify the opening, regularization, and closure of businesses.
Called "Bureaucracy for Everything," the campaign consists of two humorous videos and seeks to show the severity of the problem and how it hinders entrepreneurs in generating jobs and increasing productivity in the country, in addition to pressuring the government to reduce bureaucratic barriers.
Brazil has one of the most bureaucratic business environments in the world. The World Bank's Doing Business ranking proves that starting a business in the country is for the determined. According to the survey, the average time to open a company is 79 days, placing Brazil 179th out of 190 countries.
Another item discussed by the campaign is the complexity of the Brazilian tax system, which erodes almost 1.5% of companies' revenue (in the case of industries), according to a survey by the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo.
According to Endeavor, bureaucracy breeds more corruption, wastes time and resources, and reduces economic productivity and tax collection.
