February 10th is Professional Athlete's Day, a day to honor those who exemplify discipline, perseverance, focus, and determination. The Instituto Aço Cearense believes that sport is a driving force for well-being and social development, and therefore supports and encourages the athletes who are part of the institution's history, so they never give up.
Even with the COVID-19 pandemic, athletes supported by the Instituto Aço Cearense maintained their training routines, taking all necessary precautions, and gradually began competing again. Jonathan Benvindo, who has been practicing karate since he was seven, now 17, has already won over 200 medals and podiums worldwide. He's still a teenager, but the sport is as much a part of his life as a profession. His dream is to become an Olympic athlete and bring great achievements to the country. "Sport has changed my life and that of my family, financially, socially, and culturally. My dream is to be able to make a living from karate and bring more medals to Ceará and Brazil," he says.
For athlete Gilberto Silva, a paracyclist from Ceará sponsored by the Instituto Aço Cearense for 10 years, with over 300 podium finishes throughout his career, the life of a professional athlete is a dream that also began in childhood and was questioned by many people due to paralysis that left him with a leg disability. Despite the difficulties, he never gave up. Currently, Gilberto participates in numerous competitions and was the Brazilian paracycling champion in 2017, a bronze medalist in 2019, and is the current Ceará mountain bike runner-up in the Elite category.
It is with these stories that the Instituto Aço Cearense is inspired and wants to encourage other companies to support health and well-being and promote sports as a symbol of building values and personal development.
