September brought with it an important warning to the entire population: it is important to pay attention to emotional and mental health. Yellow September, a suicide prevention campaign, was the theme of the lecture held by the Aço Cearense Group for its employees at units located in Ceará, Pará, and Tocantins. The meeting was held online last Tuesday (29).
Psychologists Lígiane Santiago and Tamyres Barbosa spoke with employees about the importance of maintaining a pleasant environment and identifying emotional triggers that can cause depression and anxiety.
"When companies open up space to address the issue of Yellow September, we have the opportunity to provide more people with access to information and establish a more open dialogue. After all, the reality is that suicide is rarely discussed in the workplace.
Lectures on welcoming and preventing suicide in companies can offer a support tool for employees, through preventative responses, dialogue with psychologists, information for someone who is suffering in silence, as well as for coworkers close to the person at risk,” explains Lígiane Santiago.
Elaine Marcia Xavier, a collaborator at SINOBRAS, a company in Marabá, Pará, found the talk to be very informative and important. "We shouldn't judge, but rather offer help. Depression isn't a trivial matter."
People who commit suicide don't want to die; they want to escape suffering. We must be vigilant and offer help because suicide is not, and should never be, an option. Life is the most precious thing we have, and we must fight for it daily," the collaborator emphasized.
In addition to the lecture, all Group managers received a guide on identifying warning signs. More than just highlighting the signs employees may display regarding their emotional health, the guide provides action steps that can help managers refer employees to a healthcare professional.
