Gilberto de Sousa Silva, a Service Department employee at Aço Cearense Comercial and a Ceará-based paracyclist sponsored by the Aço Cearense Institute, achieved another impressive result. He placed third in the first stage of the Brazilian Paracycling Cup in the C5 category Endurance Race, completing the 3.9 km circuit in 1 hour 18 minutes 22 seconds. In the Time Trial, Gilberto finished fourth. This was the Ceará native's fourth medal in the Brazilian Paracycling Cup. This event is one of the most important events on the national calendar and contributes to the Brazilian ranking.
The event took place on June 3rd and 4th at the Indaiatuba Municipal Velodrome in São Paulo. The competition was organized by the Brazilian Cycling Confederation (CBC), the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB), and the São Paulo Cycling Federation (FPC).
Gilberto has accumulated more than 300 podium finishes throughout his career. Hundreds of medals and awards are carefully and proudly stored in the house where he lives with his wife and two children in the Parque Luzardo Viana neighborhood of Maracanaú, Ceará.
The athlete's most recent victories were in Pedro Segundo, Piauí, where he took first place in the Elite category and second place overall. In May, Gilberto participated in the Hally 40 Graus and took third place in his category, both qualifying for the national rankings. His next competition will be in July, in Picos, also in Piauí.
